World’s First Underground Ceramics Museum

About Güray Müze

Welcome to Güray Müze - where clay, history, and imagination come to life beneath the volcanic earth of Cappadocia.

A Museum Like No Other

Carved into the volcanic rock of Avanos, Cappadocia, Güray Müze is the world’s first underground museum dedicated solely to ceramics.

Merging archaeological treasures with modern creations, the museum fosters a living dialogue between ancient craftsmanship and contemporary clay artistry – all beneath the earth’s surface.

Your journey spans millennia, featuring:

  • Hittite and Phrygian ceramics

  • Seljuk and Ottoman tilework

  • Contemporary masterpieces by Turkey’s leading ceramicists and clay artists

Founded by Güray Tüysüz, a renowned ceramicist from Avanos, Güray Müze is both a tribute to tradition and a living workshop. Güray envisioned a space that not only showcases ancient artefacts but also brings together contemporary clay artists to work, teach, and inspire under one roof. His legacy lives on through the adjoining atelier and gallery spaces where visitors can witness pottery in motion and even try their hand at it themselves.
